What is an SSSTS course?
SSSTS stands for the Site Supervision Safety Training Scheme. This 2-day course covers a range of health, safety and environmental issues, equipping delegates with the skills that they need to carry out their job safely. The SSSTS course has been put together and accredited by CITB. For those who don’t know, when it comes to construction health and safety training, CITB are one of the most highly regarded accrediting bodies in the UK. Their qualifications are recognised by employers across the construction sector and other adjacent industries, making an SSSTS course a great thing to have on your CV.
What does the course include?
The SSSTS course is a very comprehensive program, and a lot is packed into the 2 days of learning! When you take an SSSTS course with us, you can expect to cover the following during your training:
- Health and safety laws and how they apply to you
- Your responsibilities in controlling health and safety on site
- Risk assessments and the importance of method statements
- How to deliver effective site inductions, toolbox talks and method statement briefings
- Monitoring site activities effectively
- How to intervene appropriately when bad practice is identified
At the end of the course, you will have to complete two assessments in order to gain your qualification; an exam and a trainer-reviewed case study exercise. The exam is 30 minutes long, and you will need to answer 80% of the 25 questions correctly to pass. Once you have successfully completed both assessments, your SSSTS card will be valid for 5 years. You’ll need to take a refresher course before that expires – and that is something that we offer here.
Who is the course for?
Who are SSSTS courses for? If you have supervisor responsibilities on a construction site, this is one for you! It’s also a great course for those who are about to move into a supervisory role, who will be able to assume their new position with a wealth of knowledge and confidence – allowing them to hit the ground running. All of our courses are led by experienced trainers, who have worked in the construction industry for a number of years. Overview
This SSSTS training course is delivered via a virtual Zoom classroom with a qualified trainer which will enable students to complete the course at home. The course timings will remain as normal and run for 2 days. The SSSTS course timings are 9am to 5pm.
All students attending the SSSTS Online Training course must be able to access a laptop or PC to complete the course work, registration forms and test. You must also have a webcam to join the SSSTS Class.

The official CITB SMSTS Refresher course books will be provided in a digital format for you to download.
Content
The CITB SSSTS Training course will cover the following content:
- The Health and Safety at Work Act
- Specific site issues that challenges supervisors on a daily basis
- Effective toolbox talks
- Supervision of occupational health
- Behavioural safety
Requirements
All candidates must possess a good understanding of reading, speaking and writing English. This course will be carried out in English and as such, it is important that candidates can communicate in English.
Assessments & Renewals
Assessment:
The SSSTS course must be attended in full for the 2 days. The exam for the SSSTS training is multiple choice with written answers as well.
In order to pass the SSSTS, candidates must achieve 80% in their exam. If candidates score less than this, they may be able to re-sit another exam subject to meeting the required marks. We offer FREE resits for candidates who need to retake the exam only.
Renewal
The SSSTS Course Certificate is valid for 5 years and can be renewed with a 1-Day refresher course to maintain the qualification for another 5 years.
